An evidence-informed approach to acupuncture care, tailored to you as an individual.
Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been practised for thousands of years. It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body as part of a personalised approach to wellbeing and care.
Many people choose acupuncture alongside conventional healthcare as part of their approach to supporting physical and emotional wellbeing. Research has explored acupuncture in relation to pain, stress, sleep, emotional wellbeing and a range of other health concerns.
Traditional acupuncture is based on the concept of Qi (pronounced “chee”), often described as the body’s vital energy. According to traditional Chinese medicine, Qi flows through pathways in the body known as meridians. When this flow becomes disrupted, symptoms and imbalance may arise.
From a biomedical perspective, research suggests acupuncture may influence the nervous system and stimulate sensory nerves under the skin and within the muscles. Studies have explored its effects in relation to pain perception, stress responses, mood and sleep.
Appointments are intentionally unhurried, allowing time for detailed discussion, thoughtful treatment and personalised care.
Your initial consultation lasts up to 2 hours, allowing plenty of time to discuss your health history, current concerns and what you hope to gain from treatment. A treatment is included during this first session.
Follow-up sessions last approximately 75 minutes. Each session includes time to review your progress, discuss any changes since your last appointment and tailor treatment to your individual needs before the acupuncture treatment itself.
Acupuncture needles are extremely fine — much thinner than those used for injections or blood tests. Most people experience very little discomfort. You may notice a mild tingling, warmth or dull sensation when needles are inserted, which is a common response during treatment.
Many people find acupuncture deeply relaxing, and some even fall asleep during their session.
When practised by a qualified and licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is considered very safe. All needles used are single-use, sterile and disposable.
